Monday 4th September – bike + 2 short walks **** Around Felixstowe including a picnic by the Deben – Sunny and hot.

Walk 1 – See the start of the Felixstowe bike race

The official heatwave continues, looks set to beat records set in 1911 for consecutive days over r30 degrees! With Felixstowe staging both the start and Finnish of the Tour of Great Britain cycle I was keen to walk down and try to get a pic of the start that included the sea in the background so after doing my exercises to headed off at 9.45 with Mag going to watch close to the 10.45 start time as it is only at the end of our road:) With wall to wall sunshine making it ideal for taking pics but a tad on the hot side for the 192 km stage, the longest of the tour, rathe them than me! It was great seeing the cyclists warming up, the large number of police motor bikes lined up ready to move off to do the rolling road blocks all around Suffolk going through the following towns, Woodbridge, Snape, Leiston, Saxmundham, Framlingham, Debenham, Stowmarket, Needham Market, Hadleigh and Shotley. I had a walk to the start deciding where to stand and, in the end, chose the start of Convalescent Hill so I could get the sea and pier in the photo and was lucky enough to get a pic on ITV’s About Anglia:)

Bike – Around Felixstowe

After sorting out a few pics to send to the weather I packed a picnic then Mag and I set off on our bikes, I thought we could bike along the cycle finish route so headed down to Garrison Lane, along Lange road, sharp left into Beach Street but we were not allowed along the road so had to use the prom turning left to get our pic taken near the finish line before continuing past the very busy pier to the Fludyers which was much quieter. Then around to the dip, which was very quiet:) We got our spot by the mouth of the River Deben a lovely blue as was the sky, just perfect, the tide was low and a few yachts were out despite the light airs. Then we spotted a seal on the shingle bank which entertained us the whole time we enjoyed our yummy picnic, so lucky to live in Suffolk:) We then peddle back in time for me to walk down to catch the finish of the bike race.

Walk 2 – See the finish of the Felixstowe bike race

Heading down just after 3 I find a spot just past the finish and am joined by 3 official ace photographers, the only problem was we were shooting straight into the sun which made the cyclists a little dark:( It was exciting watching the big screen as the cyclists approached the finish with a large crowd waiting! The race was won by Wout van Aert with the peloton close behind and it was all over in the flash! I then went round to see the prize giving, loved the champagne spraying then walked home, top day but knackering!
